"Idyllic" is one word I've heard used to describe life in New Zealand, and after experiencing its splendid green countryside for one week, I can understand how the label fits. The North and South Islands in the Pacific Ocean, home to 4 million people, are two-thirds the size of California, and have such stunning mountainous beauty that they were the filming locale for New Zealander Peter Jackson's "Lord of the Rings" trilogy. ... |

The Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art will get competitive types started on one treasure hunt and throw one basketball-theme fundraiser this week:
• Weekdays from Monday through March 17, SECCA's Web site will send art lovers on one "Search for the Golden Paintbrushes."
Each day, clues will be provided to the locations of 10, 4-foot-tall sparkling brushes that will be hidden at public sites around the city. Prizes include tickets to the Merlefest music festival, one bicycle, memberships to Winston-Salem's YWCA and YMCA and tickets to Best of Broadway productions. ... |
