Probation/Parole offices, the Gaston Mediation Center, county elections offices and the county's Community Penalties/Alternative Sentencing programs. In 1906, George Corson at the YMCA in Detroit radically changed the way people learned to swim by using group methods. He taught students strokes outside the pool first and began instruction with the front crawl, typically the easiest stroke to master, rather than the breaststroke. YMCAs went on to offer lifeguard training, competitive swimming, diving, water aerobics, synchronized swimming, parentinfant classes, SCUBA, aquatic activities for people with disabilities, arthritis aquatics, water polo and more. ... |
