| As I read Ken Garfield's essay on finding one church ("700 churches: How to choose," June 3), I considered that while newcomers are seeking one church home, ministers and lay leaders are shaping their programs to attract them.In sorting out the results, I suggest that churches, to use an odd metaphor, may be like wines. The best ones show their virtues slowly, while some of the ones that are sweet and agreeable at first turn out to have little depth and solidity. ... |
