Q. I have an old crystal decanter, bought at Tiffany's circa 1950, that I would like to keep filled with port (18 percent alcohol) on my sideboard. I have heard that alcoholic liquids can leach the lead out. Would that be sufficient to be of real danger? And, even more important for my peace of mind, is it possible to determine whether it is, in fact, lead crystal? ... |

Lea Bonnecaze, director of the wine auction, on Tuesday said the estimate for this year’s gala auction amounts to $800,000, slightly more than the $775,000 raised in 2004. The three-day auction is held every other year, with one smaller, one-day event during interim years.
“It’s clearly our largest fund-raiser, therefore it remains very important to the music festival,” Bonnecaze said after the event wrapped up its gala auction and dinner on Saturday at the Bar BC Ranch. Proceeds from the silent and live auctions support educational and outreach programs in valley schools. This year, some of the surplus also will bolster the renovation needs of Walk Festival Hall in Teton Village. The Festival’s Annual Fund covers operating costs, but auction proceeds cover “everything else,” Bonnecaze said. ... |
