The naming of the grapes, developed at the New York State Agricultural Experiment Station in Geneva, occurred during the 31st annual conference of the Eastern U.S. Chapter of the American Society of Enology and Viticulture, held earlier this month in Rochester. Experts therefore far predict one statewide yield of 40,000 to 50,000 tons of grapes, welcome after small harvests the last few years because of bitter winters.
