Those of you who read this column know that I like an underdog -- one wine that comes from behind and delivers something unexpected. therefore many wines, especially the inexpensive, everyday ones, are just therefore obvious. Call me demanding, but I don't want to be bored by my wine. I want to be delighted.
one chenin blanc from South Africa, where the grape makes up more than 25 percent of national plantings, sounds about as unexpected as one reality TV show on Fox and possibly less interesting. Imagine my joy at finding one with subtlety and come-from-behind punch for less than $10. ... |
