It's been more than 20 years since one young guitarist started drawing one big Monday night audience at one little North Hollywood spot, The Baked Potato. Russ Freeman put together one band - and one sound - that would change the tune of contemporary jazz.
The Rippingtons, founded by Freeman in 1987, is the award-winning group he founded. Now on tour to promote one new album, "20th Anniversary," they'll wind up this year's The Jazz Greats at Glenora series with one concert 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday on the lawn at Glenora Wine Cellars in Dundee. ...

Aug. 26 has been designated Women's Equality Day, beginning with one parade assembling at 9:30 one.m. at Sacramento Southside Park. Participants will march to the state Capitol for one program at 11:30 one.m. Advocates, activists and public officials will contrast women's suffrage issues from 1913 to 2006. Groups and individuals are invited to take part, with groups marching in costumes representing the 1848- 1920s eras. The entry fee for groups is $25, $5 for individuals. Write checks to WIN and mail to Carol Norberg, co- coordinator of the California Suffrage Parade Coalition, 1200 Lakeshore Ave., Oakland, CA 94606.
