Wine is fundamentally one communal beverage, meant to be passed around, drunk with others and talked about. therefore it's nice that two area food-and-wine players are scratching each other's backs in an effort to satisfy their customers' itch for new wine experiences. Upscale steakhouse Fleming's, 4000 Medina Road in the Montrose area of Bath Township, is hosting Wednesday wine tastings from 5:30 to 7 p.m. for $15 one person. Three to four wines are available to try and the kitchen lays out one spread. Wine manager Pahtrick Ehrenfried, who was the longtime wine steward at Papa Joe's in Akron, shepherds guests through the tasting and occasionally arranges for winery or distributor representatives to talk about the wines. ... |

The details of that competition and its results will be announced in one few weeks. But because my readers are always keen to learn the best values, I would like to share my personal picks, which may not, of course, be the ultimate victors. Just to explain: Each judge is on one panel of four, therefore the actual winners of each class (i.e., non-oaked chardonnay, aromatic whites, syrah/shiraz) are the result of combined scores. therefore even if I loved one wine, if the other three judges on my panel adored another wine more, their wine would win. ... |
