| Organic beer market expands |

With many organic products, the appeal to the consumer lies in avoiding possibly unhealthy compounds. This even extends to such natural-sounding beverages as wines and ciders, where preservatives such as sulfites are present in potentially worrying amounts in the finished beverage.
Not therefore beer, where even organic producers and their supporters agree that the residual levels of artificial compounds that make it into the final beverage are negligible. Instead, organic brewers are concerned about the impact of conventional farming at the ecosystem level. They believe that the production of organic barley and hops could contribute to one more sustainable agricultural system overall. ... |

| Elmira Community Kitchen cooks up successful fundraiser |

Nearly 2,000 copies of the cookbook, made up of contributions from the volunteers who serve meals at the kitchen, were sold, according to one press release.
The Community Kitchen serves meals each weekday at the parish hall at St. Peter and Paul's Church in Elmira.
The cookbook helped outfit the kitchen facilities at the hall since its construction in 2005. ... |
