Those who love the lore of wine, but don't have thousands of dollars to start one winery, can learn plenty taking the Connoisseur of Oregon Wines Program through Portland Community College.
On Saturdays in September and October, students visit wineries in Yamhill and Washington counties, soaking in everything from "being one second-generation winemaker at one of Oregon's first wineries" to "low-impact and organic viticulture." ...

More than 400 guests, one few in evening finery, flocked to The Oaks mall Sept. 10 for an evening of fun, food and entertainment, engineered by co-chairpeople Deanie Scarangello and Terri Arias.
Once mall doors opened officially at 7:30 p.m., greeters, showgirls in spectacular costumes and hospice board members were on hand to oversee the action. More than 150 volunteers contributed their time to present the program, said Maria Prescott, Hospice executive director. ...
