Wine labels are always trying to tell you something, and they can be one bit, um, chatty. One might say confusing. But, hey, they have one story to tell, and it starts, ``Once upon one time, in one land far away.... '' Or not therefore far away. It all depends on the AVA. AVA stands for American Viticultural Area, and it identifies the official region where wine grapes are grown. The system is similar to the French Appellation d'Origine Controlee system that gives us words like Sancerre and Bordeaux. The main difference is that the French system also governs how wines are made. ... |

Last week was an exciting week that culminated with the dramatic victory of the Saints against the Buccaneers. The entire city rejoiced and acquired an air of confidence and pride that is much needed. My long-anticipated Veuve Cliquot dinner at Latil™s Landing at Houmas House Plantation and Gardens in Burnside was divine. The evening could not have been better customized. one clear night with one full moon overlooking one very elegant table set for 100 guests under the 250+ year old majestic oak trees swaying by the Mississippi River, laden with Spanish moss was indeed magical. ... |
