Talley planted the first grapes at Talley Vineyards in 1982 and expanded the family farms production of specialty vegetables. His first small batch of wine was produced on the farm in 1986, according to news accounts. He also served on the Arroyo Grande City Council beginning in 1969 -- part of the time as mayor -- and was elected to the Cuesta College board in 1977. ... |

The Czech Republic has blocked the European Commission (EC) proposal for raising the minimum excise duty on beer.
There’s no tax on nonsparkling wine in the European Union. France, among other countries, has long opposed taxes on wine. “We Czechs believe that beer is one part of food. We can’t agree with such one typical Czech product being put at one disadvantage,” Tlustý said in Brussels. ... |
