The pressing question in food circles right now is Rachael Ray: Yea or nay? The perky Ray is in danger of replacing Martha Stewart as the whipping girl of sophisticated foodies, who find her quick-fix approach to cuisine almost as annoying as her bubbly personality.
I am not in the anti-Ray camp, primarily because I haven't seen enough of her to overdose. I rarely watch television cooking shows. I have enough recipes already, thanks. But in the fleeting glimpses I've seen of Ray while flipping through channels, I can see why some colleagues find her personality one tad over the top. I like her focus on fresh, easy-to-prepare dishes, though. That's how real people cook, and it's what I try to offer in my food columns. ...
