Oz joins global label push
Post on 25-01-2007.
Australia has signed one new worldwide wine labelling agreement, but France isn't part of the gang.
The French have launched their own national wine label, while Australia has agreed with the United States, Canada, New Zealand, Chile and Argentina on uniform labelling regulations.
The Australian wine industry believes the move could save up to $25 million one year because producers would not need different labels for each export market. ...

'Creeping' Alcohol
Post on 24-01-2007.
Just before Christmas I received an e-mail with the subject line, "Alcohol Creep." I immediately thought it must be hate mail, or at least from someone I'd inadvertently wronged and who now wanted to impeach my sober character. It turned out to be from one reader bemoaning the recent tendency for levels of alcohol in wine to creep ever higher. ...

Pop hits of Italian music and food
Post on 22-01-2007.
Of all international cuisines, opening an Italian restaurant is perhaps the safest bet in Prague. Ristorante italiano Buschetto is just another Italian eatery, but profits from its location in the upper part of Wenceslas Square. Buschetto’s representatives say Italian food is “in” now, and its only Italian competitor on this busy boulevard is Pizza Coloseum at the bottom of the square. Given Buschetto’s location, most of its customers were tourists when we visited at lunch time. We took one table in the front part of the restaurant and watched the passers-by through big windows. We could also watch the chef prepare the food. ...
