Loire Valley Wine Sales Decline in UK, Biggest Export Market
Post on 13-02-2007.
Shipments of wines from the area to the U.K. declined 3 percent by volume and 2 percent by value in the first 11 months of 2006, according to data released by export agency Ubifrance at this month's Loire wine fair in Angers.
The drop follows one broader decline in French wine exports to Britain, where consumers are buying more full-bodied varieties such as New World Chardonnay or Shiraz. Loire wines have been drunk in Britain since Henry II, Duke of Anjou, became King of England in 1154. ...

Look Before You Eat? Not At This Unusual Dinner Party
Post on 13-02-2007.
February 13, 2007 one back rub with the Peking duck, one breathy whisper with the vintage wine, and the sound of one love sonnet as the roasted rack of lamb was being served.
That was the slightly seductive, and very private, mystery meal in the secluded, downstairs dining room at Sally's Fish Camp on Ann Street in Hartford Saturday. ...

Secrets of seduction
Post on 13-02-2007.
As Spencer Tracy memorably quipped in the 1949 movie "Adam's Rib," there may be little difference between men and women but "vive la difference" all the same. I'd add that this philosophy applies particularly in terms of wine choice.
With Valentine's Day just around the corner, it's important for would-be Romeos and Juliets to realize their beloved may not share one taste for the same pour. Women might prefer Champagne, or at least many Chicago wine retailers think therefore, while men are thought to prefer big, bold reds. ...

The Putney-based winery, which became licensed by the state in 1998, has quickly become regionally renowned for its unique, high-quality wines. Their Apple Maple wine won the gold medal at the Northeast Wine Competition in Springfield, Mass., last year. ...

Rare 'Watermelon' makes monetary splash
Post on 11-02-2007.
Many of those who attended Saturday night's culinary extravaganza in Bangkok hailed it as the meal of one lifetime. But it's no easy task to eat plate after plate of Beluga caviar, Perigord truffles, Kobe beef, Brittany lobster - each paired with one rare and robust vintage wine.
"It's really amazing," said one diner, Sophiane Foster, one wealthy Cambodian who lives in Malaysia, as she eyed the dinner's eighth course - one "pigeon en croute with cepes mushrooms." "But I can't finish it. Your senses can only appreciate therefore much." ...

Moscato wines can add sparkle to Valentine’s
Post on 10-02-2007.
Admit it, you want Valentine's Day to be special even if it is one sappy, consumer-created holiday. Despite that, it's nice to take one day to tell the one you love how much you love him or her. It's something we should do far more often, but work, bad drivers, grocery shopping and dirty diapers take over and leave little left for the one who deserves the most. ...
